Exide Tubular Gel Traction Battery Overview

Valve-Regulated Traction Power with Immobilised Gel Electrolyte

Exide Tubular Gel Traction Battery is part of Exide’s traction and motive-power battery portfolio and uses valve-regulated lead-acid construction.

Unlike conventional flooded batteries containing freely flowing liquid electrolyte, the Tubular Gel range uses sulphuric-acid electrolyte in an immobilised gel form.

The valve-regulated system manages internal gas pressure instead of using a conventional vent plug.

During operation, the valve system is designed to restrict oxygen ingress from the surrounding air while allowing excess charging gases to escape when required.

The immobilised electrolyte eliminates the routine requirement for topping the battery with distilled or demineralised water.

This construction is particularly relevant to motive-power environments where reduced routine electrolyte maintenance is desirable.

The batteries remain lead-acid electrochemical systems and therefore continue to require the applicable electrical, gas and electrolyte safety precautions associated with traction batteries.

Exide Tubular Gel Traction Battery Features

Gel Electrolyte, Valve Regulation & Reduced Routine Maintenance

The Tubular Gel architecture combines immobilised electrolyte with controlled pressure management for compatible traction and motive-power applications.

Valve-Regulated Construction

A pressure-regulating valve replaces the conventional vent-plug arrangement used in flooded battery construction.

Immobilised Gel Electrolyte

Sulphuric-acid electrolyte is immobilised in gel form instead of remaining as freely flowing liquid electrolyte.

No Routine Water Topping

The batteries do not require topping with distilled or demineralised water during normal operation.

Controlled Gas Release

The valve system allows excess charging gases to escape when internal pressure requires regulation.

Oxygen Ingress Restriction

Valve-regulated construction is designed to restrict ingress of oxygen from the surrounding atmosphere.

Traction & Motive-Power Design

The Tubular Gel range forms part of Exide’s traction and motive-power battery portfolio for compatible electrically operated equipment.
